Hardcore fans of the Andy Griffith Show will know that Don Knotts’ first wife, Kathryn Metz, didn’t exactly get along with Andy Griffith’s wife at the time. Others may know that, before his death, Knotts was married to an actress who was decades younger than him.
But not a whole lot of people know about the woman he was involved with between those two.
Loralee Czuchna was the actor’s second wife, and in this post, I’ll share with you five interesting facts about her life!

1. She Didn’t Stay With Don Knotts as Long as His First Wife
Loralee Czuchna and Don Knotts tied the knot in 1974 and got divorced in 1983. This isn’t one of those ridiculously short Hollywood marriages by any means, but it’s shorter than the actor’s first marriage. That one lasted for about 17 years and gave Knotts his two kids.
I’d like to point out that Knott’s third marriage (to Frances Yarborough) was even shorter (only 4 years long). That’s not because the relationship ended in a divorce, though. It’s just that the couple got married in 2002, and Don Knotts died in 2006.

2. Knotts’ Health Issues Fueled the Divorce
Some people believe Don Knotts’ first marriage failed because he was a workaholic and a bit depressed.
Don’t get me wrong; the Barney Fife actor was certainly a magnetic man. Even his daughter, Karen, knew that her father was able to connect with women in a special way. However, she still thought he had mood swings.
It’s not hard to see how this trait can take its toll on a relationship.
Loralee Czuchna, on the other hand, believed that Knotts’ macular degeneration diagnosis changed everything for them. She said the health scare ignited panic in his heart and pushed him to act out a sort of bucket-list life. Apparently, getting divorced (again) was on his bucket list.
3. She Didn’t Inherit the Actor’s Multi-Million Dollar Estate
Since Czuchna had been divorced from the legendary comedian long before his death, she didn’t inherit anything from his estate.

Instead, Knotts’ properties went to his third wife, Yarborough.
4. She Gave Marriage a Second Shot
It looks like Knott wasn’t the only one to remarry after the 1983 divorce.
Loralee (Czuchna) Knott married a dermatologist called Howard Murad in 2007. The wedding ceremony was held in the Beverly Hills Hotel, and the couple went on to live in Marina del Rey.

5. She Went Off the Radar
After the wedding, she went by the name Loralee Knotts-Murad. Besides that, there aren’t many details about her life in California.
In fact, the most recent mention of her name I could find was in her brother-in-law’s obituary, and that was back in 2022. What has she been up to? Well, my guess is as good as yours.
Final Thoughts
After being married to a star, Loralee Czuchna chose to live away from the spotlight. Wherever she is now, let’s hope she’s content!
